![]() ![]() There is a huge swath of skills and items at your disposal. It can take some time to fully understand, but it's extremely satisfying once you get it. OMORI uses an emotion triangle similar to that of Fire Emblem but is applied to changing character states instead of weapon or move type. Nowadays, RPGs usually need to have a unique system in place to keep it fresh. The "good" ending gives you exactly enough detail to make you think about it and come to your own conclusions. This is quite a shame and the best I can do to fight this is to provide a spoilered explanation in the walkthrough for those of you who get to the end.Īs for the ending itself, there are three that actually conclude things, but there are a few more that still hold value. One of the few complaints I have about the storytelling is that the ending is almost always frustrating in a bad way - there is a specific lack of direct explanation on some details that many players might not realize, causing a misunderstanding that heavily affects the story's portrayal. Something will appear or show up in your first playthrough and, when playing the game again, you will realize why it's like that. It's one of those games where everything - and I mean everything - is read in a new light once you understand the ending. ![]() The way this game tells its story is wildly satisfying to anyone who likes analyzing or overanalyzing games. The subject matter is grim and cruel but handles the situation with realism I would not expect of a game with such a visual style. I've gotten a few friends to play OMORI and there's a specific point where they get hooked, but it usually takes upwards of five or six hours if they're not hooked within the first two. This is one of those games you should go into blindly. I will not be spoiling any story details in this review. This is not only the child of MOTHER but also of Yume Nikki (which was also influenced by MOTHER). OMORI is one of the greatest I have had the honor of experiencing and its success coming from such a tiny team is miraculous.Īs a disclaimer to anyone who is looking at this review before deciding to play the game, OMORI is a psychological horror RPG. I have played a lot of RPGs in my 25 years of life on this earth. ![]()
